Coiler Capabilities

The COLOMBI coilers are designed to be able to manufacture a wide range of springs in different shapes and dimensions. The below tables gives a brief summary of the techniques and options that are available for the different COLOMBI coilers.

No. Of cams or axes: The cams and axes control the movements of the coiler. For a pneumatic coiler, manufacturing cylindrical springs, one cam that controls the wire feed is all that is needed. To manufacture conical springs a second cam is needed to control the spring diameter. For the CNC-based coilers one, two or three axes are needed. The first axis controls the wire feed, the second the pitch and the third is used to control the diameter when manufacturing conical springs.

No. of fingers: This indicates the number of winding pins that are used to coil the spring. For a cylindrical or conical spring two winding pins are needed. For a torsion spring only one pin is needed.

Wire feed length: The wire feed length is the maximum length of wire that can be used to coil a spring. The length of the spring depends on the amount of fed wire and the pitch.

Output rate: Output rate is measured in parts per minute, ppm, during continuous production.

The actual dimensions and tolerances delivered on a manufactured springs can depent on the output rate. Some of the post manufacturing options might not be possible unless the maximum output rate is lower than those specified above. Consult your nearest representative to get the necessary information.
